As a chemistry teacher, I always have to think about the hazards and risks associated with the chemicals that I use in the classroom. In this demo, I show how easy it is for a volatile liquid (hexane, which is a component of gasoline) to produce an invisible and highly flammable vapor trail that ignites and travels up a ramp towards the container. There are lots of chemicals that behave this way, and just because you can’t see or smell a chemical, doesn’t mean its safe! #chemteacherphil #chemist
