PBY Catalina “Flying Boat”, which had seen action in the Aleutian Islands during World War II. Acquired by the Palm Springs Air Museum in 2007. It was restored to military markings with nose art picturing Howard’s wife, Harriet. This PBY is now being restored to active FLYING status, thanks to generous underwriting from Harriet Bernstein (in memory of her late husband Howard). Help us keep the PBY Catalina flying! Incredible! Yesterday, a vintage Consolidated PBY Catalina flying boat took flight from the waters of Pearl Harbor in preparation for the 75th Commemoration of the End of WWII. The Consolidated/Boeing Canada PBY Catalina was used for long range patrol and reconnaissance missions, antisubmarine warfare, as well as search and rescue. Thirty-three of these aircraft were destroyed during the attack on Pearl Harbor, leaving only 6 serviceable aircraft by the end of Dec. 7, 1941. 📽️: (U.S. Navy video
